The life witness — dead man's switch
Before a death is officially confirmed, leggit uses a "proof of life" system that can trigger release if you stop responding for an extended period.
Principle
You set a check-in frequency (every 30 days by default). If you fail to sign in and respond to any reminder for 44 consecutive days, the system considers that you may have passed away and starts the release procedure. Your trustees are asked to confirm or refute it.
Detailed timeline

And if you are on vacation or in hospital?
That is precisely the role of the grace period and of trustees with the "life witness" role. Before a final release, your trustees receive an alert and can confirm that you are alive (vacation, hospitalization, coma). This suspends the procedure and prevents false positives.
