Specific limitations — crypto-wallets, seed phrases and cryptographic secrets

The leggit service operates with zero-knowledge encryption: leggit never has access to the plaintext contents of vaults, and in particular cannot read seed phrases (BIP-39 or otherwise), private keys, wallet passwords (passphrases / 25th word) or any other cryptographic secret deposited by the user. leggit can therefore neither recover them if the user forgets their master password (outside the configured trustee quorum), nor intervene with a recipient or third party to disclose them.

The user acknowledges having been informed that the entry and viewing of a seed phrase via the standard mode (from a desktop computer) exposes said seed to any compromise of the local computer environment: cryptocurrency-aware spyware (infostealers such as Lumma, Vidar, Redline, Atomic and similar), malicious browser extensions, screen recorders, keyloggers, "over-the-shoulder" capture, etc. A risk acknowledgement checkbox must be explicitly validated by the user before each deposit in standard mode.

In particular, leggit shall not be held liable for the theft, loss, unauthorized copying or disclosure of a seed phrase, private key or passphrase, nor for the direct or indirect financial losses resulting therefrom, when at least one of the following causes is at play (non-exhaustive list):

  • user PC or mobile device compromised by malware, virus, trojan, rootkit or remote control tool;
  • browser extension, software or application installed by the user with read access to their keystrokes, clipboard or display;
  • screenshot, video recording, photograph or direct observation by a third party;
  • phishing attempt: fake leggit website, fake email, fake SMS, fake technical support impersonating leggit;
  • master password forgotten by the user without having previously designated a sufficient number of trustees (recovery quorum);
  • seed phrase entry error (mistyped word, incorrect order, mixing between several wallets) — leggit performs no BIP-39 validation of your input;
  • compromise of the user's hardware wallet (Ledger, Trezor, etc.) or software wallet before or after the entry in leggit;
  • physical coercion of the user, theft of the device, duress exerted by a third party;
  • simultaneous loss of access by the user and all designated trustees / recipients (death, unreachability, refusal);
  • volatility of crypto-asset prices, regulatory or tax changes, asset freezes or failure of a third-party exchange (Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, etc.).

The user undertakes accordingly to: (i) systematically keep a paper backup (or metallic backup such as Cryptosteel / Ledger Seed Card) of their seed phrase, independent from leggit, in a physically safe location; (ii) verify the integrity of their device (up-to-date operating system, active antivirus, no suspicious extension) before any entry of sensitive cryptographic secret; (iii) prefer the paranoia mode (mobile PWA + Shamir split among 5 to 12 depositaries) for any wallet of substantial value; (iv) never enter their seed on a shared, public or potentially compromised device; (v) designate a sufficient number of trustees and recipients, in accordance with the recommendations displayed in the interface.

leggit is in no case a digital asset custody service (custodian), nor a digital asset service provider (PSAN within the meaning of Article L54-10-1 of the French Monetary and Financial Code), nor an investment service, nor a regulated payment service. No monetary or crypto-active value is ever held or transmitted by leggit — only encrypted blobs of metadata and secrets are stored.

In any event and subject to public policy provisions, leggit's financial liability, should it be engaged for any reason related to the storage or transmission of cryptographic secrets, is capped at the total amount actually paid by the user to leggit over the twelve (12) months preceding the triggering event. 6. Service limits — recourse to a notary

leggit is a digital transmission service. It does not replace a notarized act. For any document with legal value (authentic will, donation, contract, estate within the meaning of the Civil Code), the user must consult a notary. TODO translate fully.

7. Modification of Terms

TODO translate — modification notice and acceptance.

8. Applicable law and competent jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by French law. In case of dispute, French courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction. TODO translate.
